Wimbledon will follow the US and Australian Opens in implementing video review technology.
Replay systems will make its debut at The Championships this year.
Players will gain the right to question specific rulings from the official, mirroring the protocol already in use at both the US Open and the Aussie major.
This innovation will be accessible on Centre Court and the number one court throughout the Championships and on the other four featured courts when they are staging singles matches.
This move arrives only a year after the All England Club implemented ELC, which terminated the longstanding tradition of line officials.
What Can Be Reviewed?
Competitors will not be permitted to challenge the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but they can ask for the official to review other decisions, such as:
- Whether a ball has bounced twice.
- Whether a shot touched an rival's racket or person on the way past.
- Possible hindrance at the conclusion of a point.
Notably, there is an unlimited number on the number of reviews a player can initiate.
A Recent Example
An illustrative case took place in a recent tournament recently, where a top player used the video challenge against Jack Draper.
Draper admitted it was a tough situation for the umpire, but thought his opponent had "played the rules quite well."
The umpire viewed a video and determined Draper was responsible for interference, granting the rally to Medvedev.
Wider Implementation
This technology are not exclusive to Grand Slams. It has been in use at the US Open since 2023 and the Aussie Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by next season the men's ATP Tour plans to have the system implemented at all of its tournaments.
Other Changes
A further change at The Championships 2025 will be the addition of graphical cues on displays to support the verbal announcements from the ELC system.
This solves instances where fans have occasionally been uncertain if a shot was out or in.
Finally, with exactly a century of days to go until the beginning of the Championships, the AELTC have further revealed an increase in daily capacity at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
